Rugby in New York City costs money! We rent fields, pay coaches, hire vans, pay referees, purchase equipment… everything we do comes at a cost! Part of that is covered by your seasonal dues, and part of it is covered cross-club fundraising. But costs increase every year, and sometimes we can only cover the basics. Player fundraising is how you can keep your costs for men’s rugby low and increase the level we function at as a men’s team!
It is YOUR responsibility to do fundraising for this club. Administrators like the VP and other leaders are busy keeping things operating; if you want to keep your costs low and improve the equipment, performance, and options of this team, then YOU need to put YOUR hand up!
What does it mean to do fundraising?
Plan an event! Successful events players have run include:

You can also source sponsorships! Find a bar or business that would be interested in paying the club a fixed sum (typically $500+) in exchange for advertising on our gear or website, or us hosting drinkups or events at their establishment.
All of these options take work, but they’re also valuable business experience for the future. Plus, you can share the work with your teammates.

Reach out to vpmen@newyorkrugby.com; I’ll work with you to refine your business plan and hook you up with other leaders that can help.
Follow through and execute the event with teammates!
What exactly do you get?
First and foremost, you support the team and keep costs low.
But you ALSO get 10% of the profit from your event, up to the cost of your season’s dues. Strapped for cash? Run a fundraiser and get your dues covered!
But you ALSO can get extra benefits for the team, in terms of equipment, perks to improve playoffs, and fun events! If the team collectively reaches fundraising goals, we can afford extra benefits for the men’s team.

How do I get started?
First, come up with an idea or sponsorship connection and a basic plan for how it will make money. Then, email vpmen@newyorkrugby.com, and they’ll help you refine your plan and connect you with other leaders that can help you execute. It all starts with YOU wanting to put the effort in to help the team.
