NYRC is committed to participating actively and contributing to the paramount Black Lives Matter movement. We will use our platform as the oldest rugby club in the United States to promote and uphold a culture of inclusion and equity in our rugby community.

For the month of August, NYRC will be participating in a month-long fundraiser to donate funds to New York City’s own ROOTS Rugby [Rugby Offering Opportunities To Succeed].

This afro-centric rugby organization—with representation at the Club, Collegiate & Elite levels for HS, Women & Men—launched in 2019 and has been dominating tournaments internationally and nation-wide. This new organization stands to foster relationships and create a space of representation and empowerment for its players—leveraging their impact through the sport of rugby.

We aim to follow ROOTS’ example, uplift important movements like BLM, and stand behind our collective NYC rugby family.
