The New York Rugby Club traditions are rooted in a group of players who met in New York City in 1929 to form the New York Nomads. The Nomads subsequently began competing as the New York Rugby Football Club ("New York RFC").

We field three competitive sides competing in the Empire Rugby Football Union Geographical Union ("Empire GU") and the Northeast (NRU). Recent highlights include trips to the national round of 16 in 2001 and 2002, plus regional playoffs in Competitive Region 4 (CR4) round of 32 in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
In the spring of 2015, both of our teams made a push at the national playoffs and were mere defeats away from a national title.
